I have always loved books and admired authors.I am so very grateful for the gifts those folks left for posterity.

Until a few years ago I didn’t think seriously about writing a real book like this memoir. My degree—Bachelor of Arts, DePaul University, Chicago—wasn't in disciplines particular to the art of writing though writing is something I have always really liked. I still have poems I wrote about each of my four children as their little personalities started shining through.
For several years in the 80’s I had written and successfully, self-published source books for the Needle Artists--Designer Source Listings--but, never any serious writing like a memoir.

My favorite read has always been the history of man and the things—tangible and intangible—they brought to (and left for) our world. I also liked a bit of mystery because you are a participant in the process of learning “who done it.” Even if you didn’t get the right culprit, you exercised your brain in the process of trying.​
As a child I was never without an Agatha Christie paper back or one about Abraham Lincoln or some other important person from our history. I loved “second hand” stores, even before my mother had her stores, because they always had used books a person could buy for $.25 or $.50--just the right price for a child. Libraries were/are even better because they are free and have just too many wonderful books and other media to mention here. Everyone should read but, if you want to write then read, read, read.

The need to fulfill a long ago promise, (though made facetiously), to my mother drove me to spend years running into brick walls, spending money I couldn’t afford and growing to look at the world through her eyes. I don’t how she did it. As I looked at her life, as I learned the who, what and why of her life I could hardly stand it. I would come to understand so much more about her heart and soul.
